Mississippi custody is divided among state prison custody, county jail custody, court records, federal custody, immigration detention, and notification systems. Use the office that matches the record type.
- County jail custody: use the County Directory, then the county jail or sheriff route for the local roster, jail docket, bond, or release question.
- State custody: use the MDOC inmate search for sentenced state prisoners and MDOC placements.
- MDOC records: MDOC lists the Records Department at P.O. Box 24388, Jackson, MS 39225, phone 601-933-2889, and MDOCRecordsDepartment@mdoc.state.ms.us.
- MDOC public records: use the written request route linked from MDOC's public-records page; MDOC says telephone requests are not accepted.
- Court records after arrest: use Mississippi Electronic Courts where applicable or the local clerk for that court.
